Residents are being asked to not push snow into Township Roads-Click here to avoid a summons being issued

Winter is upon us, and this is a good time to take this opportunity for residents to make sure their mailbox is properly erected along the roadway and when plowing your driveway out to understand that the Township has an Ordinance pertaining to snow removal of a property:

Alexandria Township Ordinance, Chapter 153, Article III; Section 43:

“It shall be unlawful for any person to place, move, put, or cause, allow or permit to be placed, moved , or put, by shovel, brush rake, plow, snow-blower, or in any other manner, snow, ice or similar substances, into, on or across any public roadway, street or right of way located with the Township of Alexandria, whether paved or unpaved”.  A person found violating this ordinance will be subject to the following penalties:

  1. A fine not exceeding $1,000, each day on which snow, ice or similar substances are placed in the road or street.
  2. Imprisonment for a term not exceeding 90 days.

Going to jail for pushing snow out onto the road is a little harsh and the odds of that happening are slim to nil, but we do issue summons yearly to residents who do put snow out on the road and create a hazard for other drivers and create additional work for the DPW. Please be respectful and mindful this winter when plowing and shoveling out your driveway.

CLEAR the ROAD immediately or you will be fined!
